TEXTBOOKS AND TESTING
We have a specially trained team of professionals who work together to create both textbooks and standardized tests in braille and audiotape.
BRAILLE
Translating a school textbook or standardized test into braille poses it's own challenges. Experience and teamwork make all the difference:
Our team includes a coordinator, transcriber, proofreader and tactile graphics specialist.

All are experienced in textbook and testing formats appropriate for various grade levels.

Both our coordinator and transcriber have completed courses in Nemeth code for transcribing mathematical notation.

We have expertise in all subjects, including both text and tactiles for social studies, science and foreign language.

We are experienced in making the many subtle judgment calls that best serve the student, such as which graphics to explain in braille text and which to recreate with a tactile diagram.

TEXTBOOK PRODUCTION
Allow 1-2 months to transcribe a typical textbook.

Because of the complexity of the layout and many informational graphics, it is typically more expensive to translate than a basic book.

Our archives include textbook editions still in use across the county.

Please note: You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to view this (and all) PDF files. If you do not already have the Acrobat Reader installed, you may download it by click here.

AUDIO
We also record textbooks and tests for visually impaired students, incorporating navigational features and expertly describing charts, graphs and formats.

Recorded books provide a quick and less expensive way for visually impaired students to access some texts. Plus, our unique combination of services enables us to add tactiles specifically referenced on your cassette or CD book. For example, we can create:

Foreign language text on audio with high-contrast tactile reference chart of characters.

Math text with tactile diagrams of charts and graphs.

Science text with detailed tactile illustrations.
